ABOUT

I have experience in designing gardens and landscapes in both rural and urban environments, from small, city courtyards to large restoration projects. My skills include design, coordination and project management.

Each site is a blank canvas. My role, as I see it, is to design a garden that suits my clients’ lifestyle, within their budgetary parameters. Embedding the design into the surrounding landscape and creating a seamless connection between house and garden. I believe the materials and language of the house should seep into the garden. It’s important that in responding to my clients brief, the garden integrates with both the built and natural environs. I feel strongly that a garden should reference the surrounding environs and history, the boundaries blurred and a sense of establishment created from the outset.

I like to remain hands-on throughout the construction phase and am just as interested in how the drainage works as in the spirit of the garden. The practical and the aesthetic cohabit, if these two elements are in harmony the garden will thrive.

In the past ten years I have been involved with master planning, landscape design and nursery establishment on a 120 acre site on Malolo Island, Fiji.  This role also involved the setting up a large team of gardeners, training and reporting systems.  In New Zealand I have been lead designer and project manager on two large acreages that required master planning, regulatory approval and consents, roading and services.  As well as a wide range of residential garden designs in and around Auckland and Northland.  Currently on the drawing board is a high end residence in Denarau, Fiji and preliminary work on a residence and small villa complex in Mexico .
